No. 3 Greenfield (17-10) at No. 2 Dresden (21-6) (Region
7-A girls’ quarterfinal)
Time: 7 p.m.
Previous meetings: Greenfield won 50-37
Players to watch: Greenfield guard Brittany Peoples;
Dresden guard Amy McAlpin
Next opponent: Winner plays the Union City-West Carroll
winner
What to know: Greenfield won the earlier meeting, but
this time the losers’ season is over. So don’t expect the same type of game out
of Dresden. The Lady Yellowjackets have won four of their last five games with
the lone loss coming against the No. 1 team in Class A Union City. The earlier
loss to Greenfield ended a nine-game winning streak for Dresden. The Lady Lions
will look to respond from a loss in the district championship with a win.
No. 4 Lake County (15-10) at No. 1 Gleason (22-7) (Region
7-A girls’ quarterfinal)
Time: 7 p.m.
Previous meetings: Lake County won 58-14 in last year’s
region quarterfinal
Players to watch: Lake County guard Tiana Gray; Gleason
post Briana Jones
Next opponent: Winner plays the South Fulton-Huntingdon
winner
What to know: Lake County won the region quarterfinal
easily last year, but the Lady Falcons were ranked in the top five of the state
last year with players like T.T. Flowers and Carnation Hart. Lake County is
fourth in District 14-A this season with some solid players, but not as strong
as last year. Gleason played well in the district tournament to earn the crown
and are on a four-game winning streak. The Lady Bulldogs will look to dominate
in the post with Briana Jones underneath. Lake County has lost six of its last
seven games.
